Work and Play
Powell River artists Ursula Medley and
Maggie Poole were joined by Lenora
Sattmann and Sigrid Hawkes for this
multi-media exhibition. The portraits offered
views of a woman at ease with herself and
her body, whether at work or at play. Both
oil and acrylic renderings were shown,
plus film and photographs recorded by
Sigrid Hawkes, including Sattmann’s
images in paint, collage, and assemblage
art.
PaperCut Art
James Kobierski of Gibsons has been
working for some years on the ancient
Japanese art of kire-e (“paper cut” art).
European artists such as Matisse also
experimented with this method.
Using modern technology, James
Kobierski has produced bright, vibrant
and intriguing works which often
explore the human form and people in
action in pieces such as “A Walk in the
Snow,” “Carrying Water,” “Boy with a
Slingshot,” and “Shore Fishing.”
Martha Jablonski-Jones: Around the Back
Feb. 28 - April 7
Martha has been drawing and painting since childhood. After studying Fine Arts at the University
of Alberta, she spent several years as an illustrator for Graphic Designs Ltd. Edmonton, prior to
establishing her own business. Martha now lives and works in the Commercial Drive area of Vancouver.
Her work was featured in the Eastside Cultural Crawl in 2006. She is a member of the FCA.
Martha Jablonski-Jones artistic focus in on the contemporary urban landscape, and in particular, the rich textures of things weathered, worn-down, imprinted by time and human occupation. Images in recent works present urban structures and vistas, but never the frontal, public view, but rather the candid, unguarded scene; "around the back" .She is intrigued by what is slightly hidden, a little inaccessible....Doors, gates and windows which seem to beckon entry, yet prevent it.
GPAG was pleased to present "Around the Back" showing the work of Martha Jablonski-Jones.
